Doctor Strange: Review (Spoilers)

Synopsis: Marvel’s Doctor Strange follows the story of the talented neurosurgeon Doctor Stephen Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) who, after a tragic car accident, must put ego aside and learn the secrets of a hidden world of mysticism and alternate dimensions. Based in New York City’s Greenwich Village, Doctor Strange must act as an intermediary between the real world and what lies beyond, utilizing a vast array of metaphysical abilities and artifacts to protect the Marvel cinematic universe.

Not tired of the superhero movie genre ? Guess what ? you will not be disappointed with this movie. Doctor Strange brings a fresh new universe to explore in the production of MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe). The marvel cinematic universe from tv shows to the large screen expanded their world in the street level with Daredevil or Luke cage, a global large scale with the avengers and in the nowhere of space with Guardians of the galaxy. Now it’s time to enter in the world of mystical art with the sorcerer supreme and i can guarantee, you will love it.

Another win for Marvel..doctor-strange-image-2

Benedict Cumberbatch is another example of brilliant cast. He portrays very well the character of Doctor Strange from the beginning as a neurosurgeon to the powerful master of mystical art. I think Marvel is already aware that origins stories of superheroes started to annoy the audiences. It is the reason by watching Doctor Strange, you will not have the feelings it is based on origin story because the plot of the first act has been well illustrated and simply produced. you will not see specific details of Doctor Strange’s personal life. Except for his love one’s Christine Palmer (Rachel Mcadams), you will just see the essential of Doctor Strange’s origins, which are the accident, how he lost his fortune trying to recover his hands and how he trains to acquire his powers. There is few funny sequences, but it is worth it. Benedict Cumberbatch proves he can be serious and play some funny scenes with Benedict Wong during the film. I really loved the acting of the Ancient One (Tilda Swinton). It is greatly appreciated that Marvel has used another approach to represent the Ancient One compared to the comics. Tilda Swinton incarnates the character with such passion and dynamic, you will enjoy watching her in the large screen. The fight scenes with the Ancient One are the best parts of the movie. The ancient One’s movements and fight skills are perfect and show how badass Tilda Swinton is in this character. It is really too bad she died in the middle of the movie because she a beautiful addition to the plot of the movie with this different perspective of the ancient one’s character. I understand now why she wants to make a spinoff movie about the ancient one later on. The villain Kaecillius (Mad Mikkelsen) is also great but also forgettable and clichés like other marvel villains. However, compared to some of them, he has great motivations, which makes the third act of the film quite interesting during the appearance of a CGI Dormammu.

Doctor Strange is another great addition to the franchise’s success of Marvel Studios. This new and different world of the mystical art presented in the movie is definitely well made. The action scenes, the battles in different dimension inspired of “Inception” and cosmic visions from New York (say hi to the avengers tower), to Hong-Kong will make you fall in love with Doctor Strange and you will learn to appreciate fight sequences into a new different perspectives. Magic is something science would never explain, and Doctor Stephen Strange learned it in his journey.
