Suicide Squad: Review (Spoilers)

Synopsis: In the aftermath of Superman’s death, intelligence operative Amanda Waller assembles a team of dangerous criminals: the deranged Harley Quinn; elite hit man Deadshot; pyrokinetic ex-gangster El Diablo; opportunistic thief Captain Boomerang; monstrous cannibal Killer Croc; and specialized mercenary Slipknot. At Belle Reve Penitentiary and places them under command of Colonel Rick Flag, they are used as disposable assets in high-risk missions for the United States government. Each member has a small bomb implanted in their head, designed to detonate any member rebel against Flag.

It was certainly the most anticipated movie of summer 2016. After the downfall of “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice”, Warner Bros and the DCEU make another come back this time with the most famous inmates of the DC comics. Suicide Squad movie rekindles the excitement of DC comics fans who are able to finally see in live action popular figures like Harley Quinn, Captain Boomerang, Deadshot in the DCEU; and obviously the performance of Jared Leto as ” The Joker”. After Deadpool and Guardians of the galaxy, it is time for Warner Bros studios to present their recipe of the anti-hero genre. Are they really the ruthless and worst heroes ever hired to save the day? It is certainly an enjoyable movie, the expectations were high but the production and plot have failed to plug all the holes that will describe the movie as the blockbuster of this summer.

They are bad, but that’s good..

Suicide Squad will make you fall in love with Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie) and like Ben Affleck as “Batman”, Will Smith deserves a standing ovation for his performance as “Deadshot”. Suicide Squad really takes the time to properly introduce every characters of the movie. Almost every ones except Killer Croc (Adele Akinnuoye Agbaje) possess a backstory, which allow the audiences to better understand the motivations of each one of the inmates in the middle of the story; and get attracted by them. The complicity between Harley Quinn and Deadshot; and the “Bonny and Clyde” love story with the joker have proved Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn) can have a chemistry with every main characters in the movie. The action sequences are definitely enjoyable and you will not wait until the middle of the movie to get excited about a Batman kick-off a Deadshot presented as a model of ” Good father”or intercept the crazy couples around a chase between the batmobile and the pink Infinity G-35 redesigned perfectly. This scene has enhanced the cinematography and beauty of the movie. Viola Davis plays the real definition of Amanda Waller in the comics. She is heartless and the callous behavior she presented to her character gives a total justice to the representation of the black intelligence operative agent. If most of the actors did a good job representing their roles, the plot surely disappoints at a certain time of the movie. Suicide Squad presented a good introduction during the aftermath of Superman’s death and Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) motivations. However, the middle of the movie is scamped and the production succeeded to make some exciting characters such as Enchantress (Cara Delevingne) or the ” Joker” ( Jared Leto) completely forgettable. David Ayer did not make the mistake to put too many plots in the same movie, which is great but the final production seems they make the movie in the rush. The development of the story is unsatisfactory in the second plan; and the audiences starts to be lost in the middle of the movie between the action sequences and the Joker’s rescue to Harley, which is the second plot of the movie.

One thing for sure, Warner Bros studios and DCEU know exactly how to introduce their characters in the large screen at the right time. Similar to Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, the little cameo of the Flash (Ezra Miller) against Captain Boomerang (Jai Courtney) is one of the examples that fits greatly in the creation of the movie plot. For the fans of comics, Suicide Squad is without a doubt still enjoyable. The dialogues are fun, the main characters did a good job, the general idea of the film makes sense, the scenes are comprehensive and not totally wasted. It is sure not a masterpiece but contrary to the first two DCEU movies, you will be entertained from the beginning to the end. Unfortunately, the expectation of this movie will let you unsatisfied.
